Good Morning Harmon Students- Today marks the first day of start with hello week!  This is a week where we are spreading kindness and inclusion to all students.  Kindness and inclusion are important actions that keep our school and community safe.   Wednesday, September 18 is GREEN OUT DAY- WE WANT TO GET THE ENTIRE SCHOOL in Green as we celebrate inclusion and kindness!

The winners of the Media Center contest "What genre would you use to write a book" will be revealed at lunch today.

The boys and girls cross country teams competed this weekend at the Boardman Spartan Invitational in Boardman, OH. The teams faced off against upwards of 20 teams from Ohio and Pennsylvania. The boys finished in 3rd as they edged out three teams who were all within 4 points of each other. The boys were led by Stephen Sabulsky who finished in 12th place. He was supported by Elliot Kandra (16th), Fanil Khasanov (19th), & Max Moyer (22nd).  The girls finished in 2nd place in their contest. Claire Jenkins brought home the top spot as she finished in 1st place. Helping the girls were Evelyn Jenkins (4th), Audrey Miller (11th), Audra Leigh (12th), Norah Philips (15th), Haley Koch (18th), & Addy Occhinero (19th) Great job team, good luck as they continue their season at Tallmadge tomorrow evening.

Attention 8th graders, if you haven't paired up with another pair to make your DC room of 4, you need to figure that out today.  Next week we will have to assign rooms to meet our deadlines. 8th grade boys still looking to pair their pair into a room of 4 should see Mr. Frankmann in his room at the start of 4th period lunch. 8th grade girls still looking to pair their pair into a room of 4 should see Mrs. Frankmann in her room at the start of 4th period lunch. The boys and girls cross country teams completed a team sweep over conference rivals Revere and Copley yesterday here at home. The boys were led by runners Stephen Sabulsky (2nd overall), Fanil Khasanov (3rd), Elliot Kandra (4th), & Max Moyer (7th). They were able to beat a tough Revere team by two points. The girls continued their winning ways as well. They were led by Audrey Miller (3rd overall), Evelyn, Claire Jenkins (4th and 5th), & Taylor Patras (7th). Amazing job! The team will continue this Saturday morning at Boardman.

It was an outstanding weekend for the cross country teams as they raced at the Bruce Lerch Invitational at Brecksville on a chilly Saturday morning. The team was broken into four groups and each group placed well. The boys varsity finished 4th out of 16 teams in their opening run. Stephen Sabulsky led the boys with a 10th place finish and a time of 11:58. Fanil Khasanov came in 11th and Elliot Kandra behind him at 12 to lock up their standing.  The girls varsity followed with an amazing 1st pace finish out 19 schools. Claire Jenkins won the race with a time of 12:18. Evelyn Jenkins finished in 7th and Audrey Miller came in 9th. The girls had 7 racers finish in the top 20 to lead the team to the victory. The boys open followed with a 3rd place overall finish. The top runners for them were Daniel Banks (12) and David Davis (13). The girls open closed the day with a 2nd place overall finish. McKenzie Kilroy (4th) and Andrea Karas (5th) led the charge for the girls. Amazing job, teams, and good luck tonight at home against Revere and Highland.

Today: Quiz Bowl Team

Attention 7th-grade science students: please bring headphones with you to class today.

Eighth graders are reminded that after their first period classes they need to have their Walkabout/ Be the Change Schedule passports that they were given in Social Studies classes yesterday.  Alpha groups need to report to the Commons with their supplies to meet with the teacher leading them on their walkabout.  Bravo groups need to report to their Be the Change room with their chromebooks.  Weather is nice.  It’s going to be a great day.

We use electronic buzzers to answer questions about books, science, social studies, math, Greek mythology, the arts, & sports. Our first competition is Saturday, December 14.

The last 2 prize levels are Visa gift cards, in addition to all the other awesome prizes! A spending spree awaits you! All items purchased by your supporters will be delivered directly to their homes, except for popcorn.  Popcorn will be delivered to the school in approximately 4 weeks, and you will be notified of the delivery date.

Congratulations to the cross country team as BOTH teams took first place finishes at Cuyahoga Falls last night. The girls continued their dominance with a perfect score. The boys captured their first team victory over Barberton and Cuyahoga Falls. The team will continue this weekend at Brecksville. Great job team!

It's time to crunch and sell! Our fundraiser is heating up like a popcorn kernel in the microwave! Take some time to reach out to family and friends and ask them to support your fundraiser. You can share through text, email, Facebook, or any other social media. The second prize level will earn you a Get Out of Class Day at Fun ‘n’ Stuff on Thursday, November 7.

The cross country teams competed in Mentor over the Labor Day weekend. Both teams raced hard and found success as the boys were able to secure a 3rd place team finish. Fanil Khasanov led the way with a 12:06 time and a 6th place finish. He was supported by Max Moyer (7th place), Elliot Kandra (10th place), &  Krish Patel (18th place).The girls continued their winning ways as they finished in first place and a final score of 20! Leading the charge was Audrey Miller who was the top runner with a 12:23 time. Claire Jenkins finished behind her in second place and Evelyn Jenkins finished in fourth. Also helping the great score was Audra Leigh (6th), Addy Occhionero (7th), & Haley Koch (9th). In all, 11 girls finish in the top 20. Great job! The season continues tonight at Cuyahoga Falls. Keep up the great work team!

Student Council is looking for students who want to be a part of the Harmon Vibe!  We are looking for students with awesome ideas to bring fun and service to Harmon!  If you want to help plan spirit weeks, be involved in the face painting, planning and serving at the Tailgate Party then come and join Student Council.  The mission is to create leaders of the future. Our first meeting will be Thursday, September 5 in the morning at 7:10 am in the gym.  If you a bus rider or cannot attend this meeting and want to join Student Council see Mrs. Rorabaugh or Mrs. Schofield-Carter to get the google classroom code.  We will be having Thursday Morning and Thursday after school meetings.  

We are excited to announce the start of our Heart & Sole program here at Harmon. This running club is designed for 6th-8th grade girls of all abilities. Whether you're an experienced runner or just starting out, Heart & Sole is the perfect place for you. At the end of the season, we’ll all come together to complete a 5K as a team on Sunday, November 17.Practices will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays after school starting on Tuesday, September 24 from 2:30 - 3:45 and ending on Sunday, November 17. For sign-up information, please see Mrs. Nockowski or Mrs. Sunderhaft.

Today BETA club will have it's first meeting held in Mrs. Schofield-Carter's room from 2:30-3:15. BETA Club is an 8th grade Honor club that focuses on service.

On Friday morning, August 30 before school in the cafeteria, BETA Club students will be selling donuts for $2.00. Please come to school with cash if you’d like to purchase a donut. BETA Club plans to sell donuts twice a month on Fridays.

The boys & girls cross country teams opened the season this past Saturday at Kenston High School. The boys led off with a tough matchup and raced well with many runners setting their best times. They finished with a 6th place team score. Stephen Sabulsky led the way with an overall 12th place finish and an 11:49 time. Elliot Kandra, Evan Stang, & Sahith Maralla helped to contribute. Th girls dominated with a first place team finish and a combined team score of 25 points. Nine girls finished in the top 20. Audrey Miller led the way, finishing second overall with a 12:05 finish. Also scoring for the girls were Claire (3rd) and Evelyn Jenkins (4th), Taylor Patres (8th), & Audrey Leigh (11th). Great job cross country and congratulations. The next race is Saturday, August 31 in Mentor.
