Today: Electronics Club

Electronics Club will meet today.

On Tuesday, March 19 we are having Loaded Chicken Taco Bowls For lunch. However, we are also offering bosco sticks to be purchased (this will not be part of a lunch).You must make sure you have money on your account before you come up and get the bosco sticks. No Money, No snacks  No bosco sticks!!

The 5 wrestlers who competed in the OAC Junior HIgh School State Wrestling Championships this weekend represented Aurora very well.  First year wrestlers Giulia Zayas and Lila Yurman wrestled very well against tough opponents- all of whom placed.  Jack Jastal won straight through 3 matches on Saturday, but lost on Sunday in two very close matches against state place winners.  Cannon Driscoll finished in 5th place to earn all Ohio honors.  Harmon's top finisher was Anna Brasiel who finished 3rd in the State of Ohio.  Congratulations to all 5 of our wrestlers, and thank you for your effort and sportsmanship. Good luck in your next wrestling adventures between now and next season.

The third woman featured during Women's History month is Sonia Sotomayor. Sonia Maria Sotomayor is an American lawyer and jurist who serves as an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. She was nominated by President Barack Obama on May 26, 2009, and has served since August 8, 2009. “Success is its own reward, but failure is a great teacher too, and not to be feared.” Sonia Sotomayor. The reader for today was Kylene Cayetano. There will be a great Quiz Bowl meeting today in Mrs. Sunderhaft's room until 3:30. The High School Quiz Bowl team will be joining us to be readers and score keepers as we compete against each other.

If you see Aryan Argawal today be sure to wish him luck as he is heading to Columbus to compete in the state MathCounts tournament. Way to represent Harmon Middle School Aryan!

Good luck to Jack Jastal, Anna Brasiel, Giulia Zayas, & Lila Yurman all of whom will be competing in the OAC Junior High School State Wrestling Championships this weekend at the Covelli Center in Youngstown. 

7th graders there is one more week left to bring in donations for Volunteers of America Food Bank and the Kid's Book Bank. Mrs. Daniels Purple team is in the lead for both the Food/Hygiene Product donations and the book drive. Remember, rolls of toilet paper can be used to deduct points from the team's total. Come on 7th graders, lets finish strong.

Attention wrestlers, four members of the high school wrestling team qualified for the state tournament and will be leaving after school today to head to Columbus.  We have been invited to help send them off. If you can (and this has been approved for wrestlers who are running track for Harmon), meet coach Frankmann in his room right after school to walk over to the high school to join in the send off.  We'll then walk back to Harmon- or, you can arrange to be picked up from the high school. Again, all wrestlers who can, please meet coach Frankmann in his room after school today to walk over to AHS to help send off our wrestlers to the state tournament.

Good luck to the students competing in the problem solving tournament tomorrow. Remember to bring a calculator and pencil and arrive at Kimpton Middle School in Munroe Falls by 8:30 a.m. 

7th graders, please continue to bring in donations for our book and volunteers of America Drive. The standings at the end of February are as follows: Volunteers of America donations has Mr. Goodman's Blue Team in 3rd with 8 points and Mrs. McDermitt's Pink team in 2nd with 9 points. The book drive has Mrs. Matousek's Orange team in 3rd place with 5 points and Dr. Sobolewski's Green team in 2nd place with 7 points. But way out in the lead is the Purple Team in Mrs. Daniels' class with 60 books and 20 Volunteers of America donations. Remember, rolls of toilet paper can deduct points from any team. Come on 7th graders, let's make this drive a huge success. Congratulations to 6th grader Jackson Orrill on placing 4th at 105 lbs at the OYWA State! Nice work Jackson.

Congratulations to the 12 students who competed in the Math 24 tournament last Friday. Special congratulations to 8th graders Ryan Cooper, Marcia Hamilton, & Aryan Agarwal who received 8th grade medals, 7th grader Akash Lokesh and 8th grader Vamsi Pabbisetty who finished 2nd in their grade groups and Ethan Bradley who was the 1st place finisher in the 6th grade group.  If you see these students be sure to congratulate them.

Congratulations and thanks to the parents and students who attended the Quiz Bowl tournament at Copley High School. The teams included: Harmon A Team finished with 6 wins and 2 losses: Ryan Cooper - Captain, Vamsi Pabbisetty, Sebastian Will, Oliver Nenandal, Aryan Agarwal, & Jasbir Anand. Harmon B Team finished 4 wins and 4 losses: Dan Banks - Captain, Mason Sarver, Aniket Panigrahi, Nicole Sender, Tevona Sesuraj, & Simon Nenandal, & Aadha Sathyamurthy. Congratulations also goes out to Alyza Kour and Anjani Panigrahi who represented the Speech Team with their Original Oratory and Declamation speeches. Both girls had their dads attend to support the team as an assistant coach and judge. We are so grateful for all of the parent support. Both competitions were tough, but the students worked hard to finish strong in Quiz Bowl and Alyza Kour took home a 3rd place trophy in her category, doing better than 19 other students for her original  8 minute oratory speech that she wrote, memorized and delivered.

Benjamin Solomon Carson Sr. is a retired neurosurgeon, academic, author, and politician who served as the 17th United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. The Presidential Medal of Freedom and the Ford’s Theatre Lincoln Medal are among the awards he has received. “Success is determined not by whether or not you face obstacles, but by your reaction to them.” Ben Carson. The reader for today was David Davis. There will be a video presented in the media center today concerning Ben Carson's life.

Congratulations to all those who competed recently in the Mathcounts Tournament. Special congratulations to the team consisting of 6th grader Neil Nair, 7th graders Ashwath Nettem, and 8th graders Aryan Argawal and Marcia Hamilton who finished first in the Countdown round.
